It’s good to note the firsts in your child’s life, but watch out for the Last. It sneaks up on you and gets past you before you realize it was the Last, and It has long past and now you can’t remember when It happened. But you really wish you could get It back just one more time.
- the last time he fell asleep in your lap
- the last picture you put on the refrigerator
- the last time you tied her shoes
- the last time he asked to be carried
- the last night before the first boy called for her
- the last time you were referred to as “Mommy” instead of “Mom” (or the more exasperated “Mother!”)
- the last ride on your shoulders
- the last boo-boo you fixed with a kiss (teen-aged broken hearts aside)
